Romantic encounters were often described with French terms like rendezvous or tête-à-tête. The German term of Stelldichein (as translated by Joachim Heinrich Campes) is used to signify dating when the age of consent to marriage was relatively high. German traditions to signify lovers who met in hiding were described with terms like Fensterln (windowing) or Kiltgang (dawn stroll) used in Bavaria and Switzerland.[133] Analyst Sebastian Heinzel sees a major cultural divide between American dating habits and European informality, and leads to instances in which European expatriates in cities such as New York keep to themselves.[134]
I remember when I was a teenager that guys in high school would talk about going out on Friday and Saturday nights "trolling." By trolling, they meant driving down the street angling for a catch with a hook, lure, and line drawn through the water to catch some nice looking fish. The trolling was figurative, of course, and a fish was a girl. This was the idea of some boys on how to get a date. Other terms have been used for the same thing, such as "cruising." Apparently cruising is still used today. They are looking for easy, loose women to "hook up" with for sex, like animals.

My friend met a nice girl on eHarmony a few months ago. He is from BC and she is from Ontario. They started talking every day, and he has even visited her twice since then. They are what I would call “dating to see”. They are trying to get to know each other enough to decide whether to not to move into a serious and committed relationship (see below). But at this stage of dating, they are not ready to pick up and move to the other person’s city.
People can meet other people on their own or the get-together can be arranged by someone else. Matchmaking is an art based entirely on hunches, since it is impossible to predict with certainty whether two people will like each other or not. "All you should ever try and do is make two people be in the same room at the same time," advised matchmaker Sarah Beeny in 2009, and the only rule is to make sure the people involved want to be set up.[153] One matchmaker advised it was good to match "brains as well as beauty" and try to find people with similar religious and political viewpoints and thinks that like-minded people result in more matches, although acknowledging that opposites sometimes attract.[154] It is easier to put several people together at the same time, so there are other candidates possible if one doesn't work out.[154] And, after introducing people, don't meddle.[154]

One of the problems is that we have been trained to view each other as sex objects rather than as persons. The proliferation of cable TV, movies, and now the Internet, has encouraged this perception of others as sex objects. The perception of others as sex objects has become deeply ingrained in our thinking, especially the thinking of impressionable teenagers and young adults.
3. A girl uses her physical beauty as her currency and basis of value. A girl may be so used to feeling validated through her looks and sexuality, that she uses this as her primary tool to get what she wants in life. A woman, knows her worth is beyond her physicality. A woman bases her value on her intelligence, her strength, her integrity, her values, her contributions, her humanity.

#19 The insecure relationship. Both of you may lead your own independent lives and have your own friends. And as much as you try to convince your partner that you’re loyal, your partner may always assume you’re cheating or are interested in someone else. You can help your partner to a certain extent, but beyond a point, you can’t do much but let go. [Read: How to handle insecurity in a relationship]
This type of dating is more intentional. Sure, you can have fun, but the relationship has another purpose as well. That purpose is for you and her to get to know each other, to see if you both want to move into a more serious relationship. You start talking about life goals, your ideas of marriage, if you want to have children and how many, your career plans, your spiritual beliefs, your family background. This type of dating would include speed dating, blind dates, and online dating. This relationship may or may not be exclusive, and you may or may not be introducing this person to your friends and family.
From the mail I receive and the questions from young people, it is clear that dating nowadays has strayed from its legitimate purpose. What concerns people about dating now is sensual gratification and sex. No wonder there are so many people who are hurt by their dating experiences. Dating should be something that is full of joy and happiness. When you know the legitimate purpose of dating, you can enjoy your dating experience.
Dating is a stage of romantic relationships in humans whereby two people meet socially with the aim of each assessing the other's suitability as a prospective partner in an intimate relationship. It is a form of courtship, consisting of social activities done by the couple, either alone or with others. The protocols and practices of dating, and the terms used to describe it, vary considerably from country to country and over time. While the term has several meanings, the most frequent usage refers to two people exploring whether they are romantically or sexually compatible by participating in dates with the other. With the use of modern technology, people can date via telephone or computer or meet in person.
